Janus

God of beginnings and endings

Focus: military defense

Age: Classical

Worship: Jupiter, Saturn

God Power
City of Janus: Allows you to instantly construct a duplicate of a targeted building. Select one building of your choice then select an open area within its line of sight to create it. Cannot be used on walls, town centers, titan gates or wonders.

Myth units
Amphisbene: A two headed monster that can attack two units at once.

Improvements
Bullet; Black Caesar's Coin: Armory improvements cost 25% less gold.
Bullet; Black Temple Doors: All units receive -5% hack and pierce vulnerability.
Bullet; Black Double Science: Gates have the same HP and armor as walls.

After Kronos escaped Old Atlantis and took upon the new identity of Saturn, it was Janus who found him and provided him shelter in Italy. In recognition for coming to his aid, Saturn awarded Janus with the double science. He had now power over the beginning, the end and the transition. In time, Janus would raise a rather large family, having three wives (Camese, Jana and Jaturna) and two children (Tiberinus and Fontes).
Janus became an important figure in Roman mythology and was unique among other gods. His most notable feature were his two faces, having one behind the other. Janus was also identified with doors and gates. During times of peace, the doors to his temple were closed. During times of war, the doors would be opened to allow him to go and assist in battle.

***

Janus can be both an offensive and economical aid for your civilization. The City of Janus power can be used in numerous ways offensively or defensively. You can either create a second Military Academy after creating the first, a step that is vital to create an army early on in the Classical Age. On the other hand, you can use it on a Tower to better defend your main base or even save it for later in the game to create an additional Castra to reinforce a forward base. The most crucial feature is that the new building is free, thus saving you valuable resources that can be spent elsewhere. An interesting feature is that it can even be used on villas once you've built all 20, creating an extra source of 5 population.
The Caesar's Coin improvement not only allows you to save resources but makes it easier to improve your units fighting capabilities, thus giving you an edge in battle. This is reinforced by the Temple Doors improvement. Being able to afford improvements faster also allows you to obtain a faster favor trickle sooner.
Additionally, Janus can also provide defensive benefits. The same improvements, as well as Double Science, makes your civilization more resistant to attacks, especially should you choose to rely on walls for protection. In short, you can say Janus can come in useful when the outcome of the game is uncertain and you need a small boost everywhere.

Trivia: Janus' god power was initially going to be called Swift which doubled the speed of all your units on the map. With the introduction of Sun Wukong's Great Journey power, this made Swift redundant and I had to drop it altogether.
