Description
Sagittarii (Heavy Cavalry)
Gifted with greater attack and range, the Sagittarii is the strongest ranged unit the Romans have access to. Although it does pierce damage, it is considered a cavalry unit and benefits from stable technologies. They are also expensive and take a long time to train but, if well upgraded, can even take on buildings. They have a unique damage bonus vs. heroes.

Mythology:
Inspired by the Parthian horsemen, the Sagittariis were mounted archers that performed for spectators in mock battles. They would ride into battle to slay war prisoners, reenacting battles the Roman army won. Other times, they would simply hunt herds of wild animals that ran within the amphitheater. Sometimes, the Emperor himself would join the hunt by firing arrows from his balcony. Among other gladiators, the Sagittariis were especially well paid to keep their trust. Since they were armed with range weapons, the public and the Emperor were at risk.

A redesign may be needed as the Sagittarius depicted above is actually a Parthian Cataphract which did not appear until the 3rd Century AD:
