Description

Vulcan
God of fire

Focus: Military Attack

Age: Mythic

Worship: Mars (www.deviantart.com/tapejara/ar…), Saturn (www.deviantart.com/tapejara/ar…)

God Power
Volcano: select an area on the map to summon a volcano that quickly erupts, destroying any building on top of it. The volcano then spews a permanent cloud of ash above. The cloud causes any units caught in its fallout to build, train and gather resources 50% slower.

Myth units
Kakos: A giant that crushes its foes with its fists. Its special attack involves breathing fire onto units and buildings alike, causing them to take considerable damage for several seconds.

Charybdis: A bladder-like naval unit that breathes steam. It crushes all ships around it by generating whirlpools.

Technologies
Bullet; Black Testudo Formation (300 Wood, 15 Pixel: Storm Cloud): Legionnaires do triple damage to archers.
Bullet; Black Iron Shank (300 Gold Coin, 12 Pixel: Storm Cloud): Human archers do double damage to cavalry.
Bullet; Black Foreign Allies (300 F2U Sprite / Pixels: Beef, 12 Pixel: Storm Cloud): Human cavalry do double damage to infantry.

Born from the alliance of Jupiter and Juno, one would think Vulcan would be the handsome child of the royal couple. On the contrary, he was small and ugly with a red bawling face. Horrified by its appearance, Juno threw the baby out of the heavens and into the sea below. The fall caused one of his legs to break upon colliding with the water surface and to never fully develop. The baby was rescued by the sea nymph Thetis who raised him as her own in an underwater grotto.
Vulcan grew happily as a child with pearls as his toys and dolphins as his playmates. One day, he found the remains of a fisherman's fire on the beach and became fascinated with a still hot and glowing lump of coal. He took it back to the grotto and used it to light a fire, which he stared at for hours on end. He experimented with the fire for the next few days, forging tools, weapons and even a chariot. He even made a beautiful necklace for his foster-mother but this caused Juno to become suspicious once Thetis presented it at a party.
The queen of the gods became furious when she found out her son became such a successful blacksmith and demanded him to return home. Thetis refused, but instead had Vulcan forge a beautiful throne for Juno to sit in. The throne was actually a trap that closed metal bands onto her as soon as she sat on it. To release her, Jupiter promised Vulcan the hand of Venus in marriage. Vulcan agreed, the two wed and settled in a smithy located beneath the island of Sicily. It is said that whenever Venus was unfaithful, Vulcan would cause volcanoes to erupt in his mad beating of hot metal. He was then primarily associated with destructive fire by his worshippers, who would sacrifice live fish and animals in bonfires in order to be spared.

***

Vulcan is an all out offensive Mythic age god. All his technologies help your military units counter their weaknesses and his myth units deal heavy damage. His god power, Volcano, can cripple the economy of your opponent by rendering their home base useless. Though it cannot be cast directly on a Town Center, Titan Gate or Wonder, its effects are permanent. For your opponent to be able to make progress, they will have to completely relocate their workers and builders. Note however that the cloud affects all units, including your own, so taking over the settlement won't necessarily grant you a new effective base of operations. The best tactic is to save this god power for your final opponent, take out some of their most important buildings, and finish them off as they try to recover.

Trivia
:bulletblack: Vulcan was originally going to have a god power called Heatwave, but it was instead renamed Drought and became Fortuna's god power instead.
