Description

Name: Duofaciem
Name meaning: Two Face
Common name: Two-Faced Sentinel
Scientific name:
Duofaciem dent

Phylum: Cranidon
Class: Patescotergum
Order: Porroguttervultus

These Savannah herbivores are smaller than their relatives the Dazzlers, growing to a maximum of 3 meters in length. Instead of size, they evolved symmetry as a survival strategy. Their tails are shaped to mimic their own neck and head. This creates confusion for predators who try to target the jugular arteries in the neck of their prey and increases the odds of the Duofaciem's chances of survival. For this tactic to work, they must absolutely dwell in tall grass to hide their feet, which always point towards the real head. This is why Duofaciem never appear in places where wild fires took place. In fact, they are usually among the first animals to run from them.

Duofaciem also lives in small herds to increase the amount of eyes looking out for predators. Their social lives are similar to that of the Thomson gazelle, where males and females live in individual herds. When these herds cross over in territories, males will try to herd females into their groups. Males in turn have sub-herds of bachelor and territorial males, with the territorials having higher chances of mating.

"Many different influences found themselves in these animals. The symmetrical Littoralopes of the Alien Planet documentary are the source of the Duofaciem's own symmetry. The original design looked more like a giraffe, and the whole was actually inspired by the Pokémon Girafarig. The current pose was inspired by an artwork of the triassic reptile Tanystropheus. The name was inspired by the DC villain Two-Face, with the scientific name deriving from Harvey Dent."

It is interesting to note that the structure that mimics ears on the tail are two short spikes. It is possible they were once going to evolve into a large thagomizer like the one on the Heremaltrix but became more useful as a decoy than a weapon. They can still inflict wounds on attackers as a last resort. However, the ideal strategy of the Duofaciem is to flinch backwards, implying it will run towards where the tail is, but suddenly dash forward. This is similar to a basketball feint tactic.
