Description

Name: Unicornus
Common name: Unicorn
Phylum: Cranidon
Class: Dracovultus

Who would have guessed that the first unicorn we would ever encounter came from outer space? Standing three meters tall, this solitary biped dwells deep in the Western Mountains of Geb, and has only been encountered once. Thankfully, this one encounter has been very profitable because the animal was guarding on specific territory and wouldn't move for a week. It finally left when it answered a call, presumably from a male Unicorn.

Surprisingly, the Unicorn has more in common with pandas than with horses on Earth. Although it belongs to the same class as the Tiger Drake, it is purely herbivorous. Its diet consists of moss, grass and berries that grow in the branches of mountain trees. The berries provide most of the nutrition for the Unicorn, and in turn, the animal helps spread the seeds of the tree through its droppings.

Since females also bear a horn, its purpose is highly likely for defense against predators such as mountain dwelling Atroxorises or Firmupennaes. The horn is in fact a sharp extension of the skull that the Unicorn regularly sharpens on rocks. It is theorized that males use those horns to compete against one another for the right to mate, but footage of such a ritual has yet to be recovered.

"This animal was all about delays. It was one of the first ones I ever designed during my earlier years in high school. However, after finishing one doodle made of graphite and colored pencil, I quickly forgot about it. Then I watched an animated movie called The Last Unicorn and this creature came back to me and I thought it would be ideal to represent how Geb could be a beautiful world despite having its share of monstrous primeval beasts. Of course, I encountered more delays in April and May when medical issues came up with vets and myself. Finally, I was able to finish it on the long weekend despite under going recovery from having my wisdom teeth pulled out. I'm also quite glad I didn't have to depend too much on pastel this time."

As shown above, Unicorns often rest on mountain cliffs and seem to just enjoy looking at the landscape. There is surprisingly a lot of food in these mountains to support these creatures. Likely because a lot of rain gets collected in the mountains, crystal clear mineral rich lakes and fertile slopes for plants to grow. With good meals and few predators, Unicorns seem to be one of the few animals on Geb that have spare time to just lay back and enjoy life. It is speculated that juveniles are very playful as they learn to fight among each other, but that also remains to be seen.

Then look into the sky where through the clouds a path is torn
Look and see her how she sparkles, it's the last unicorn
I'm alive, I'm alive
