The Midgardians by Tapejara The Midgardians by Tapejara
Formely known as the Odinians, the Midgardians are the sentient residents of the moon Midgard that orbits Odin. After us, they are the most advanced known sentient species in the Foidart Universe. There are signs of an even more advanced civilization that once lived on Tunjera, but of course they have abandonned their world and therefor have never been encountered.

Midgardians are pretty short compared to humans, growing only as tall as a kitchen chair. They are also an advanced branch of creatures that share a common ancestor with the planet's plankton. It is assumed they have been evolving for millions of years, seeing as it would take a long time to evolve from an insect like creature to a fully sentient being. Of course, Midgard has been around for a long time as well.

They are blue in color which makes it hard for them to hide in the desert. But they mostly get their game from fishing rather than hunting, also some desert tribes use the Fenrir to help them catch Hexabisons. Their body structure is a hybrid: their body is mostly covered in an exoskeleton made of plates similar to finger nails that come off now and then when worn out. However, their faces, hands and feet have internal skeletons and skin. This probably has been developped to increase flexibility. Midgardians have two thumbs and gecko like feet to help them climb steep walls.

The abundance of gold on Midgard is crucial for Midgardians. They make many tools out of it, including the pitchfork you see here, as well as spoons, bowls and weapons. They make large oval shaped house made from clay, sand and fallen plates of their own bodies. They also make silk to reinforce the structure and for the windows, providing a translucent view of the outside. They are farmers who stay close to the sea, feeding on a variety of small plants. To protect their farms from animals, the children create "sand men", which are lumps of sand and mud, with branches for tusks, sharp stones for teeth, and a mane of foliage. Inside its gaping mouth they leave small plates which carry their scent. The formation acts like a scarecrow to fend off anything that tries to feed off the farm.

Personality wise, the Midgardians are remarkable peaceful. Rather than competing for territory during the rise of their civilization, they learned that working in numbers is more profitable. They live in villages bordering the sea, occasionally travelling to their neighbours to trade ressources or services. There have been criminals however and they do exile those who commit murder.

They have invented a language consisting of symboles that ressemble the game tic-tac-toe. They can communicate it using an accordeon like structure in their chest that inhales and exhales air for the sole purpose of making sound. They breathe using vents along their bodies that simply take in oxygen from the air around them, just like our insects. With the abundance of oxygen in Midgard's atmosphere, there is no problem for the Midgardians. However, they are at the mercy of large sandstorms that occasionally blanket the sea. To protect themselves, they evolved pressure sensitive cavities (similar to the albatross) on their face plate that senses approaching storms, allowing them to quickly take shelter in their homes.

Midgardian eyes are adjustable. It can be a bit bright during the daytime so the eyelids close down, allowing the creature to squint without getting dust in their large eyes. But since the nights last 9 earth days, the lids reopen around sunset (as shown above) to help the creatures see. They have two pairs of antannae, small ones that can fully study the scent of upclose objects, while the large furry ones catch the hint of all scents surrounding its environment.

That would be nice. The truth is, Midgardians have no religions. Although Midgard is full of life it is a pretty tough place to live in, considering most of the planet is desert. Midgardians had to work really hard to survive and with all their efforts they have yet to discover electricity. They never put their faith into any deity or spirit, they had to rely on each other.

They however are very knowledgeable. In the future I will draw a typical Midgardian dish, a beginner's chart to learning their language and the Midgardian calendar.

They could learn, but they could never speak it. Their mouths aren't properly designed to enounciate like humans.

Thank you for submitting this :) One problem is that although they may be one of the most advanced species in the Foidart Universe, they are not in the Kanangar Prime universe.

A simple remedy might be to make a parallel universe version of Midgard and resubmit this as "The Midgardians (One-Planet-At-A-Time Universe)." That way you could keep this original deviation as it is in your Midgard folder on your gallery, but you could also have a modified clone of it, perhaps in a different folder, that would work for the One-Planet-At-A-Time project.

Thank you for your patience. I don't want to be overbearing, but I'd rather take care of the organization in the beginning than to have to change things later on.

I'll have to think about that. I'm tired tonight from a rough day at work.

I understand, and I hope you still decide to submit it.

All I'm asking is that you use the same image in a different deviation, copy and paste your current description, and then delete a few things that would make it incompatible with a universe composed of spacefaring trigalactic civilizations set 8,000 years in the future.

People's imagination is limited to what we know and understand. Ever since Alien Planet came out in 2005, there's been a wave of alien art. It is inevitable that some people will come up with similar ideas.

Should I rename the planet in my project?

You don't have to, unless you thought of a better name on your own. Some people have thought of similar names for different things, they just tell it in their own interpretation. My planets are in the Foidart Universe (my family name). You could just say, I dunno, Odin from the "ElSqiubbonator" universe.

Male. There isn't any obvious differences in gender. I believe females have longer antannae hair (a cultural thing) and larger abdomens.

Your alien reminds me of the andalites in the Animorphs book and tv series.

I've been told that a couple of times. My brothers were into that show but I never really watched it. Last I checked however the quadruped thingy was more of a centaur. I really wanted Midgardian to be bug like.

Well, the face and blue color reminded me of the andalites and I would say that the resemblance is a compliment.
