Tunjera - Desert God Beast

Description

Titaniscythes

The third member of the God Beasts is also the longest living animal on Tunjera. Reaching up to 500 metres in length, they are heavily feared by all the other life forms even though they eat primarily Worm Trees. Although they crawl on their bodies like snakes, the ground beneath them shakes under the vibration of their engines.

Desert God Beasts are very rare, and their count is the lowest of all life forms except for the gigantic sky scraper sized Deities. As their status suggests, they travel back and forth through deserts to the edges of forests of worm trees. There, they feed on the largest and oldest species. When all that remains are young trees, they leave in search for the next patch.

Using the massive scythe on their right arm, they slice a clean cut through several trees at once, knocking them to the ground. The small claw on the same arm brings the fallen worms to its beak which houses three slender silver colored tentacles. The left arm is used for defense and fighting rival males for the right to mate. As they evolved, their multiple feet shriveled away, being less necessary for locomotion. They have three camera eyes, audio receptors on their helmets and a voice box within the beak. The armor helps protect the young during growth, who are abandonned in an underground nest like Sea Turtles. Once full grown, they have practically no predators.

Due to the current state of Tunjera's soil, it was a concern as to whether Titaniscythes were endangered as their food couldn't grown as well. A tragic discovery revealed that these animals are in fact omnivores and hunt ground dwelling animals, slicing them in half using their deadly right arm. Like our bears, flesh consists a small portion of their diet, but evidence suggests they have been resorting to eating animals more and more. All Titaniscythes are right-handed and the purpose of the red gill like structures is currently unknown. The armor plates on their heads contain traces of bronze.

I had a short debate as to which color these animals should be. I picked brown which seemed suitable for a desert animal. I really wanted to avoid orange which will be used for two of the deities. The idea of their arms was inspired from the Violin Crabs.

Here is the spore version, with the original long leg design which I dropped when making this final design: [link]

You're playing with the big boys now
You're playing with the big boys now
By the might of Horus
You will kneel before us
Kneel to our splendorous power...
