Welcome to planet Adam

Description

My first official deviation of planet Adam, and also my very first underwater scene. As the drawing tells, Adam is an Earth sized planet covered mainly by ocean with a few mountains and plateaus rising from the surface. All life currently lives under water, except for the visitors of planet Eve who nest on the mountains away from predators.

The large animal you see here, the God Needle, is currently the largest known animal on Adam. I'd say it's about 15 metres long, not including its impressive lance. That lance is where it feeds, since it's hollow it is used to suck nectar from the different coral creatures of the planet. The hair on it is used for pollination. But that nectar isn't the main part of its diet. It uses it to drink blood, like a giant mosquito. However, most victims don't even realize they've been bitten. Despite its size, the God Needle can remain camouflaged thanks to its color scheme, and probe the lance forward and poke a small hole inside the prey's body. However they won't suck the prey dry, and usually take no more than a few sips.

Like many (but not all) animals of Adam, God Needles have a split body plan. Parts of its body are loose, held only by an umbilical cord. Its second body holds the lance, the cheeks, two fins and the reproductive organs (this one's a male). The main body holds everything else, including the massive skull shield. Since most mouthed predators often target the chameleon like eyes of their prey, they will often charge for the fake gigantic eye, only to end up with a major concussion. Unlike the animals of Eve, Adam's life forms are only partially armored.

Here we have two examples of "living corals" (an ironic name for now because corals on Earth are animals). The larger ones are Giant Clamps that prefer to be undisturbed, having no flower, a cold color scheme and a massive body that clamps on anything that tries to eat its algae branches. The small "Mobile Flower-Pots" are brightly colored so that pollinators can help with reproductions. They might not look like such special life forms for now, but the are many more amazing species of "living corals" yet to be discovered in 2010.

The Giant Clamps were inspired by giant shellfish and the Dimetrodons of Earth.

Oh by the way, the green mush on the bottom isn't algae, but a type of mushroom. The living corals are the only known type of vegetation on Adam.
