Age of Mythology is probably my favourite PC game of all time. I enjoy coming up with strategies, I enjoy seeing monsters fight and I especially enjoy casting the power of the gods on the map. So I figured I'd make a top 10 list of my favourite god powers as of the Atlantean Expansion. Just a reminded that this is just my personal opinion and you are free to list your own top 10 list below.

10. Prosperity
In my early years, I always found the Egyptians to be the most difficult civilisation to play with. Mainly because their villagers work slower and because everything costs so much gold. Now that I have more experience, I can better manage my economy, especially when playing Isis. Whenever I play her, I always research pickaxe asap, get a bunch of villagers on gold, have my Pharaoh empower it and then cast Prosperity. 50 seconds later I have a crazy amount of gold to use which is a big help anytime.

09. Spider Lair
I know it's a disturbing thing to say, but hearing those soldiers scream helplessly when caught by giant spiders always makes me happy. It's unfortunate that in recent years I rarely get to see soldiers walk right into the lair. Still, whenever I get to trim down my enemy's army it's always a big help. 12 free kills max. I especially remember this god power being fun when cheating. I just cast Ceasefire, multiple my Spider Lair to 100, cast a bunch of eggs, and see the whole army (except 1 or 2 heroes) suddenly disappear under a screaming cloud of dirt.

Gaia by jillienGraphics
08. Gaia Forest
The best thing about this power is that the computer AI isn't high enough to find a solution to get around this power. I actually rarely use Gaia Forest for its ressource and more for its role as a barricade. I can cast it four times, so I usually cast it on each of those towers I start with. It makes it harder for my enemy to destroy my towers while it can still fire arrows. Plus, any damage it does take can usually be regenerated thanks to the lush. Plus, I can just create a giant wall that forces my enemy to find another way to my town, buying me time to retaliate.

07. Tornado
Sure it doesn't look as impressive as Meteor and isn't as efficient as Earthquake. But What I find most memorable about Tornado is its use in the Editor. Sometimes to chear myself up, I would go in editor, cast hundreds of Relic Monkeys on the map, playtest scenario and cast Tornado on the pack. The result is a constant series of screams as hundreds of monkeys are sucked up into the whirlwhind. It's hilarious! Baboonado!! I was sad when somehow this would not work in the Extended Edition, but the memories last a lifetime. Plus, it still can wreck havoc on the enemy town.

06. Flaming Weapons
One thing that makes the Norse my favourite civilization is its high offensive power. When I can cast flaming weapons, I can just go beserk and deal huge amounts of damage. Whenever I cast this on a random map, I've pretty much won. All my Ulfsarks just level all the enemy's buildings and I get tons of favor out of it. Even if I don't make them resign, I can easily finish them off with powerful Myth Units right after.

05. Hesperides Tree
Another thing I loved about Isis is her ability to shield from God Powers. That used to be unique only to her, until the Titans came along. Theia is one of my favourite choices, not only for the Stymphalian Bird, but for the Hesperides Tree. Once this tree is cast, I feel safe from the enemy's Earthquake, Implode and Meteor Powers. Plus, I can cast it twice, so it allows me to have two bases safe from attack. Having that stress taken away allows me to relax better when playing. The Dryads are a nice bonus too.

04. Healing Spring
Whenever I find myself on the defensive in a game, having my units live as long as possible and not having to replace them as often is a big help. Healing Spring is right to the point, I can heal all of my units, whether they're gatherers, soldiers or myth units. Sure it may lower my military count in the game results but I it's worth the price.

03. Plenty Vault
Yes, odd choice of picture, but I was having a hard time finding anything fitting. After getting fed up with browsing bondage photos, I decided to go Disney. Anyway, Plenty is always a huge help and most of the time when I reach the Mythic Age when playing Greek, this is what I pick. It does the work of several villagers for all resources. It's always a big help towards the end of the game when gold becomes scarce or if I'm having a hard time a stable economy. Plenty Vault is the ultimate life saver.

02. Nidhogg
When I first saw Nidhogg I instantly fell in love. What good would be a game about mythological creatures without at least one dragon. Okay, I was a little disappointed when I found out you couldn't train lots of Nidhoggs, but its sheer power was amazing. In the past, whenever I used to cast it, I would actually not have Nidhogg fight, but rather hide somewhere so I could keep admiring it and it would not die. It just looks amazing and has inspired the alien Nidhoggr from my world Midgard. Nowadays I try to actually use him in battle whenever I can and it certainly helps to have him around with all that crush damage. It's too bad it seems to die so easily and cannot be healed, but it's a freaking dragon! It's just too epic to not love.

01. Tartarian Gate
Maybe you saw this one coming, maybe not. Well let's begin. First, if you cast it right, you instantly take out some key enemy buildings. Then, a giant flaming rocky skull emerges from the Earth (I love skulls). Then a group of monsters, the Tartarian Spawns emerge and attack everything in sight. I especially like to pick this power as Gaia because it can heal itself! I just max out all buildings improvements to make it as tough as possible and then set it in my opponent's base. The enemy can attack all they want but anything that wanders too close to the gate will be overrun by the spawns. The AI isn't that great so as soon as something is attacked by a spawn, it like retaliate and start trying to eliminate all the spawns, ignoring the gate. The doomed computer eventually experiences a slow death as the gate simply heals itself. Even if they manage to destroy the gate, it has done so much damage that I can easily rush in and finish him off. It looks great, it's effective and it never lets me down. Tartarian Gate is in my opinion the best God Power in Age of Mythology.
